A Case of Multiple Myeloma Associated with Stomach Cancer

Abstract

|
We present here a patient with simultaneous onset oi multiple myeloma and stomach
cancer.
A 67 year-old female patient entered the hospital with lumbago for 2 months.
Peripheral blood examination revealed severe anemia with rouleaux formation. Total
protein of the serum was 8.2 gm/dl with hyperglobulinemia(5.7 gm/dl). On the
electro-phoresis of the serum, the abnormal protein with the pattern of monoclonal
gammopathy was shown. There was abnormal paraprotein arc on IgC, λ region on
serum and urine immunoelectrophoresis. There were osteoporotic changes on skull x-ray
and comperssion fracture of Ll spine on Lumbar spine x-ray respectively.
Bone marrow aspiration showed hypercellular marrow and plasmacytosis (50∼60%).
Fibergastroscopy performed to search for the cause of upper G-Ⅰ bleeding, suddenly
developed during admission, revealed benign gastric ulcer, but the result of the gastric
mucosal biopsy proved to be poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma.
To our knowledge, this is the first report of an association between multiple myeloma
and stomach cancer in our country.
